Throughout the course, you’ll learn the “Spirit Guide method” of footwear augmentation, along with foundational airbrushing techniques—all aimed at helping you craft striking, one-of-a-kind knee-high boots without the use of industrial machinery.

This hands-on class is perfect for:

Day 1: You’ll be taken off-site to learn where to source materials. Please budget around $50 if you’d like to purchase additional supplies. If that’s not possible, don’t worry—materials will be available for you to use in the space.

Day 2-5: You will spend these days in-studio sewing, airbrushing, collaborating, and completing your boots.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Understand the Rhino 3D interface and key modeling tools

  • Learn to navigate and create 2D and 3D geometry in Rhino

  • Model a base plate and insole board using a digital last

  • Design custom heel and wedge components suitable for 3D printing

  • Understand key considerations for digital design in footwear

  • Gain insight into real-world prototyping, printing, and attachment methods

  • Leave with a fully modeled heel design and the skills to iterate further

Session 2: Base Plate Design

  • Using a 3D last as your base

Session 3: Basic Heel Design 

  • Intro to more advanced Rhino tools

  • Building off your base plate for modularity and customization

  • Tips for modeling symmetry and refining surfaces

  • Optional homework: finish one sculpted heel for review

Session 4: Complex Heel & Wedge Forms + Design for 3D Printing & Final Critique

  • Designing sculptural wedges or unique heel shapes

  • Considerations for 3D printing: file types, tolerances, material behavior

  • Finishing techniques: sanding, painting, plating, reinforcing

  • Strategies for attaching heel to uppers/outsoles

  • Workshop time: students share screens and refine their designs

  • Final tips, resources, and how to keep practicing beyond class

  • Computer with Rhino 7 or 8 installed (trial version is fine)

In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn the basics of hand sewing leather and create your own leather card holder, or a pouch. All materials are provided, including leather, tools, waxed threads and option of embossing words.

If you’ve never worked with leather before, this is a perfect introduction! Techniques include studding or hand sewing the wallet together, foil stamping to create your own personalized wallet.

Make Your Dream Shoes: Boots, Sneakers, Stilettos—You Name It!
Duration:
5 full days (option to condense into 4 long days or split into half-day/evening sessions)
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM with 1 hour lunch break

Course Overview

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and construct a custom pair of cemented-construction shoes—your choice of style: boots, sneakers, flats, heels, or sandals. The class is tailored to your skill level and project idea. You’ll learn everything from pattern-making to lasting and soling. Students may use in-house lasts or request custom lasts in advance (additional fee applies).

Day 1: Design & Pattern-Making

  • Introduction to lasts: styles, shapes, and sizing

  • Measuring your feet and selecting an appropriate last

  • Sketching your design directly onto the last

  • Creating pattern templates from tape and transferring to paper

  • Pattern refinement for uppers and linings

Day 2: Cutting & Sewing Prep

  • Finalizing pattern pieces

  • Cutting upper and lining leathers

  • Introduction to Skiver Machine and Skive materials where needed

  • Introduction to the high-post sewing machine

  • Begin stitching upper and lining components

Day 3: Complete Uppers

  • Continue stitching

  • Assembling upper to lining

  • Prepping completed uppers for lasting

Day 4: Lasting

  • Cementing lining and uppers to the last

  • Adding structural components: toe puff and heel counter

  • Drying and setting time between steps

  • Discussion of sole options and planning

Day 5: Soling & Finishing

  • Attaching midsoles, shanks, and outsole

Duration:
5 full days (option to condense into 4 long days or split into half-day/evening sessions)
Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM with 1 hour lunch break
Format: Private sessions or group class (2+ students required for group)
Skill Level: Open to all—from first-timers to experienced shoemakers

Course Overview

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and construct a custom pair of cemented-construction shoes—your choice of style: boots, sneakers, flats, heels, or sandals. The class is tailored to your skill level and project idea. You’ll learn everything from pattern-making to lasting and soling. Students may use in-house lasts or request custom lasts in advance (additional fee applies).

Day 1: Design & Pattern-Making

  • Introduction to lasts: styles, shapes, and sizing

  • Measuring your feet and selecting an appropriate last

  • Sketching your design directly onto the last

  • Creating pattern templates from tape and transferring to paper

  • Pattern refinement for uppers and linings

Day 2: Cutting & Sewing Prep

  • Finalizing pattern pieces

  • Cutting upper and lining leathers

  • Introduction to Skiver Machine and Skive materials where needed

  • Introduction to the high-post sewing machine

  • Begin stitching upper and lining components

Day 3: Complete Uppers

  • Continue stitching

  • Assembling upper to lining

  • Prepping completed uppers for lasting

Day 4: Lasting

  • Cementing lining and uppers to the last

  • Adding structural components: toe puff and heel counter

  • Drying and setting time between steps

  • Discussion of sole options and planning

Day 5: Soling & Finishing

  • Attaching midsoles, shanks, and outsole

  • Options: pre-made soles, stacked leather soles, or custom-built. Learn about the different constructions

  • Finishing details: trimming, inking, buffing

  • Introduction to Foil Stamping: Customize your sockliner, and insert sockliner with foam

  • Final critique and photos

  • You may alter the toe shape of a last (add material), but may not shave it down unless you purchase the last.

After discovering her passion for shoemaking in a transformative course, Keiko immersed herself in the art, learning from independent artisans and navigating the corporate fashion industry. Leather Belt Class

Join us in designing and crafting your very-own artisanal leather belt. In this 4 hour class, you will gain knowledge of belt leather qualities, adhesives, edge painting, machine & hand-stitching techniques, metal hardware application, and other techniques which will ultimately increase your appreciation for the craft.

1-2 sqft of veg tan belting leather (6-8oz, Wickett & Craig), hardware, and tools to use included in the class.

Please give yourself at least 5 days prior to the class to sign up, so you can pick and choose your own leather color and buckle from the Options below. If it’s a last minute purchase, you will have limited selection of leathers and buckles.

You will use tools such as: Strap cutters, oblong tools, center bar buckles, heatable edge paints, exacto/olfa blades, erasable pens, soldering iron, sand paper, edge painting roller pens and tubs.

You will learn where to purchase some tools!

You can choose from the color chart in the photos below, and the width. We have 4 buckle types, you can pick the finishes on them as well.

In this 2-day course, you will learn the basics of shoemaking, but only making half of it (the front half!) in a form of Mules- You will modify a Standard Mule pattern to your design, trace and cut material, last the upper, insert toe puffs, prep the outsoles, and sole the mules.

An easy style to start!

Book a Private Class: If you're in a hurry and prefer a one-on-one session, you can schedule a private class on a day that works best for you.

Join a Group Class: If you can plan ahead with at least one month’s notice, you can sign up for a group class on a day of your choice. We’ll post available dates on the calendar and see if others are interested in joining. Please note, we need a minimum of 2 students to hold a group class.

PLEASE SEND YOUR SHOE SIZE ahead of time.

All tools and supplies are included in the course.

If you prefer a high-heeled mule, please take a 3-day stiletto course, or book a private class. They cannot be finished in a one-long-day course.

Class Description: Join Marley Marc of SPIRIT GUIDE 9 for an immersive 5-day workshop where you’ll explore unconventional methods of footwear construction and design ideation. Throughout the course, you’ll learn the “Spirit Guide method” of footwear augmentation, along with foundational airbrushing techniques—all aimed at helping you craft striking, one-of-a-kind knee-high boots without the use of industrial machinery.

This hands-on class is perfect for:

Group discussion and collaborative ideation are core to the experience. You’ll be encouraged to engage with current technologies, challenge conventions, and reshape your perspective on how footwear can be imagined and made.

Day 1: You’ll be taken off-site to learn where to source materials. Please budget around $50 if you’d like to purchase additional supplies. If that’s not possible, don’t worry—materials will be available for you to use in the space.

Step into comfort and creativity with our new slipper making class!

In this one-day class, you will use a pattern that we provide, with a choice of round toe or square toe, and learn some hand-sewn techniques for leather working, and walk out with a pair of personalized vegetable tanned leather or wool slippers! 

Materials (thread, veg tan leather, wool, cork, rubber/EVA outsoles) are included in the course, and hand tools are here in class for you to use.

No prior experience required, just bring your enthusiasm and let's make some magic together.

This course is listed on our online courses as well. The difference is materials are included, and you’ll have guidance!

NEW CLASSES IN 2025!

Join bespoke shoemaker Kira Goodey in this 8-day intensive workshop to create your very own pair of high-heeled platform thigh high/ knee heigh/ankle boots.

You will be provided with all the components to build your shoes - including an assortment of exciting leathers to choose from. Included leathers are; Black, Black patent, Silver, Gold, Red, Light and Dark lining leather, Other assorted leathers in a variety of colors are available, but may not be large enough for a whole shoe/boot, but can be used for details. Other leathers are not included in the class price, however, we can advise the students where to purchase them.

Choose whether you would like to make a zip up or lace up pair. You can also add other simple design element - such as a toe or heel cap. You will be guided through every step of the process from cutting the pattern to attaching the sole and you will literally walk away with a pair of shoes you designed and made by hand yourself.

PLEASE NOTE: If class time is missed, it may not be possible to finish the shoes in the time provided. However, makeup classes can be scheduled at a cost of $350 for a half day (3.5 hours) or $600 for a full day (7 hours).

An apprentice of celebrated fetish shoemaker and graduate from London’s Royal College of Arts she has also worked as a designer for some of the biggest names in luxury fashion and footwear.With a practice built on a foundation of a love of craft, Kira also loves teaching the next generation of designers how to hand make shoes at the Fashion Insitute of Technology and in private workshops.

Course Overview

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and construct a custom pair of cemented-construction shoes—your choice of style: boots, sneakers, flats, heels, or sandals. The class is tailored to your skill level and project idea. You’ll learn everything from pattern-making to lasting and soling. Students may use in-house lasts or request custom lasts in advance (additional fee applies).

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  • Understand the Rhino 3D interface and key modeling tools

  • Learn to navigate and create 2D and 3D geometry in Rhino

  • Model a base plate and insole board using a digital last

  • Design custom heel and wedge components suitable for 3D printing

  • Understand key considerations for digital design in footwear

  • Gain insight into real-world prototyping, printing, and attachment methods

  • Leave with a fully modeled heel design and the skills to iterate further

Session 1: Introduction to Rhino

Session 3: Basic Heel Design 

  • Intro to more advanced Rhino tools

  • Building off your base plate for modularity and customization

  • Tips for modeling symmetry and refining surfaces

  • Optional homework: finish one sculpted heel for review

Session 4: Complex Heel & Wedge Forms + Design for 3D Printing & Final Critique

  • Designing sculptural wedges or unique heel shapes

  • Considerations for 3D printing: file types, tolerances, material behavior

  • Finishing techniques: sanding, painting, plating, reinforcing

  • Strategies for attaching heel to uppers/outsoles

  • Workshop time: students share screens and refine their designs

  • Computer with Rhino 7 or 8 installed (trial version is fine)

Course Overview

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll design and construct a custom pair of cemented-construction shoes—your choice of style: boots, sneakers, flats, heels, or sandals. The class is tailored to your skill level and project idea. You’ll learn everything from pattern-making to lasting and soling. Students may use in-house lasts or request custom lasts in advance (additional fee applies).

Day 1: Design & Pattern-Making

  • Introduction to lasts: styles, shapes, and sizing

  • Measuring your feet and selecting an appropriate last

  • Sketching your design directly onto the last

  • Creating pattern templates from tape and transferring to paper

  • Pattern refinement for uppers and linings

Day 2: Cutting & Sewing Prep

  • Finalizing pattern pieces

  • Cutting upper and lining leathers

  • Introduction to Skiver Machine and Skive materials where needed

  • Introduction to the high-post sewing machine

  • Begin stitching upper and lining components

Day 3: Complete Uppers

  • Continue stitching

  • Assembling upper to lining

  • Prepping completed uppers for lasting

Day 4: Lasting

  • Cementing lining and uppers to the last

  • Adding structural components: toe puff and heel counter

  • Drying and setting time between steps

  • Discussion of sole options and planning

Day 5: Soling & Finishing

  • Attaching midsoles, shanks, and outsole

  • Introduction to Foil Stamping: Customize your sockliner, and insert sockliner with foam

In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn the basics of hand sewing leather and create your own leather card holder, or a pouch. All materials are provided, including leather, tools, waxed threads and option of embossing words.

If you’ve never worked with leather before, this is a perfect introduction! Techniques include studding or hand sewing the wallet together, foil stamping to create your own personalized wallet.

Book a Private Class: If you're in a hurry and prefer a one-on-one session, you can schedule a private class on a day that works best for you.
