This is an EIGHT session, 2.5-hour each class. Twice a week, in the evenings. Total of 20 hours
In this class you will learn to 3D Model a sneaker midsole in Rhino and export it for 3D printing.
It is recommended but not required to have some previous experience with 3D modeling. You will have easy to follow instructions and light homework in between classes.
In this class we will review basic functions, navigation, and geometry basics in addition to common modeling functions and more. The course will be focused on NURBS modeling, Polyline and Polysurface basics, Lofting, and Boolean tools. In addition, we will discuss working with lasts and scans in 3D and exporting for 3D Printing. We’ll even talk about some tips, tricks, and techniques to produce quick and useable models.
Rhino is required for this class.
This class will be hosted via Remote. We will be sending you a link once you sign up.
There will be no screen recording/ recording of the session via the zoom platform allowed in this class.
With additional fees, you may ask the file to be printed by Eric, or you can send the file to your local printer, or your own printer if you have one!
ABOUT THE TEACHER
Eric Weiss is a footwear maker, designer, and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. He has spent the last decade learning and teaching anything and everything footwear. In 2014, he apprenticed and worked as a teaching assistant at Brooklyn Shoe Space, learning the basics of shoemaking before attending Pratt for Industrial design. In 2016 he started working for Adidas as a Footwear Prototyping Engineer at Adidas Brooklyn MakerLab. He worked his way up eventually leading the Adidas Brooklyn MakerLab, overseeing all making projects at Brooklyn Creator Farm. For 5 years he made, designed, and taught footwear classes at Adidas and beyond. In 2023, Eric was promoted to STM of Technologies at Adidas in Los Angeles and spent the next year overseeing all 3D printing in the newly formed Adidas DTLA office. Eric has taught classes and workshops with Pensole, Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian design museum, Brooklyn Shoespace and Arcteryx among others. He has mentored students from SVA, Parsons, Pratt, and more helping get them into the footwear industry. Former students and apprentices have gone on to work at On Running, Adidas, Nike, Under Armour, and more. Eric Currently works as a Freelance Footwear Consultant doing Prototyping, Design, and Development. His Client list includes Justin Beiber, Spirit Guide 9, Nicole McLaughlin, Adidas, and more.
