3D Printing Heel & Wedge making class

You have the option to come into Brooklyn Shoe Space with your laptop as well. But the class is a remote class.

BEGINNER RHINO for FOOTWEAR: Modeling Heel component

In this 4-session zoom course, you will learn how to use Rhino to create heel components!

You will need a LAPTOP or DESKTOP & preferably a 3-button mouse.

A regular mouse will also work, but it is much easier than the touchpad.

Session 1: Introduction to Rhino

Learn the basics of using Rhino, including how to navigate the software, set up your files and presets, and create curves, lines, 2D shapes, and 3D shapes. Discover how to combine these shapes to design more complex items.

Session 2: Creating a Base Plate and Basic Heel

Continue with understanding the software and more key commands. + Understand how to use a 3D model last to make a base plate and mock-up an insole board. Learn step-by-step how to design a basic heel using lines, curves, and a combination of shapes. Experiment with different methods to find the one you prefer.

Session 3: Designing more Complex Heels

Building on Session 2, learn more advanced rhino tools to build more interesting heel and wedge designs off of your base plate.

Session 4: Designing for Footwear and 3D Printing

Explore design considerations for footwear and what’s achievable with 3D printing. Discuss finishing options for 3D prints and the best methods for attaching your printed designs to the upper parts of the shoe. For the rest of the session, workshop design ideas in Rhino.

For class purposes, we will all use our 7cm heel height 0929 last with an almond toe.


TEACHER:

Julianne is a multidisciplinary creative technologist and designer merging fashion, design, math, and technology. She leverages tools like 3D modeling, 3D printing, computer science, and AI to create designs that are intellectually stimulating and visually compelling. She has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology in Computer Science and a degree in Footwear and Accessories Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
